Nook Color Firmware Update 1.1.0
Ok, so what's the big deal with this release? Not much. If you were hoping for Android 2.2 Froyo update, the nookMarket, etc you'll have to wait for a future release. Here is what B&N published for this update:
- Improved performance of Wi-Fi connectivity, Home and Shop.
- Ability to pinch and zoom in browser.
- Enhanced reading experience for magazines and children’s books.
- Access helpful NOOKcolor related information and support tips on the new default browser home page.
- Reduce mistyped passwords with “show password” option during registration and Wi-Fi set up.
- Easily identify NOOK kids Read To Me™ books with a new text banner next to the titles in Shop.
- General bug fixes and performance improvements.
Please be aware that the update will break root. There isn't much here, if you rooted, I'd wait.
The update will be rolled out gradually automatically over wi-fi. You can update your device immediately by downloading the manual update from Barnes & Noble.

1. Buy a class 6 microSD HC card (I'd been using class 2 and class 4 until now).
2. Backup using Clockworkmod, just for safety's sake.
3. Use Win32diskimager to put auto-nooter-2-12-15.img on the SD card.
4. Power totally down the nook (hold power for 40 seconds, just to be sure.
5. Insert the SD card.
6. Power up, with power cord plugged into 110 volt source.
7. Wait at least ten minutes.
8. Unplug things, then remove the SD card.
9. Hold the power button for the nook in for thirty seconds.
10. Almost fall out of the chair when things suddenly started working. I now have working market! It actually remembered things, although not all was still installed.

1. The nook now says it has software version 1.0.0, after my attempt to revert to stock.
2. Market fails to connect, even though WiFi is connected and I gave it a valid gmail (Google Mail) address.
3. I had used Clockworkmod to restore things to a semi-working order, but I wanted to really get back to a level playing ground, so I followed the "Flash back to clean stock ROM" path with less than spectacular success.
Quickstart (with a fancy button in front)
Setup Wizard (with the Market symbol in front)
Quickstart takes you to the lovely Kate video followed by "Terms and Conditions" to which I agreed, Time Zone selection, and then a WiFi connection selection. I choose my home WiFi, give the WPA2 PSK key, and get connected. Then comes "Continue with Setup, whence I then register my device. After a successful registration, I discover to my dismay that I still am rooted! (And I can't get to the point of sideloading 1.0.1. OUCH! Anyone got some balm or at least soothing advice to get me out of this hole I seem to have dug myself into?
After you disconnected the nook, what for the update to install, it may take few minutes to begin or it may install during the sleepmode.
