Problem with My Documents content loading. 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
I've just got my Nook.
I had been saving up ebooks on Calibre, waiting for it to arrive.
I used Calibre to transfer all my books to the Nook (admittedly, I had about 650.)
When I opened my Nook it went to 'updating new content' and just stayed there for hours.
So I went into it through My Computer and deleted all the files, and then tried just one.
Went back to the nook: one worked just fine, it updated and I could read it.
So then I tried adding five. It took a few seconds, but they uploaded just fine.
So then I tried seven. back to the same problem, just got stuck on updating content.
So I went back and deleted them. But I also deleted the five as they weren't five books I really wanted, and tried to put a few other ones.
Now, when I open my nook, it says it's uploaded new content, but it shows the old five books, but then when you click on them it says it can't open documents. However, it doesn't show any of the other books.
According to Calibre it hasn't got these books and has other ones.
Strangely, the very first book I loaded, which I wanted to keep, is still there and works.
But how do I get it to load other books?

Anyone have any ideas?

I tried resetting it: holding down the power button for 20 (nothing), and even tried taking out the battery and with it plugged in reboot, but it didn't do anything (didn't even switch on).

(have a slight problem in that I'm not actually in the US, I got a friend to post it over to me.)

Any advice would be useful, or else I have a very expensive way of reading just one book!

well in the FAQ we have the procedures for a hard reset should you need it. The other things you didn't won't reset the nook.

I'd try deleting the my documents directory, then copying without calibre a few books into My Documents.

The B&N My Documents has issues with large amounts of books, kind of ironic.

Thanks! That seems so simple, but has cleared up the problem.
Much appreciated.

I still get this same problem, and it's enormously annoying. I still don't figure why I should have to do a hard reset just to get to see my books. Are B&N really serious about their ereader, or do they just want to focus on their own content and screw the third party stuff?

I've never had to do anything like that and had it for several months and used a lot of books.

I'm wondering what the source of your books is? Are they a lot of PDF books?

If that's been your experience, I'm very glad for you. For me, it's been constant frustration, so much that I've gone back to reading books on my iPhone.

My books are mostly ePubs from Gutenberg, plus quite a few PDBs, from Manybooks and homebrewed. The PDBs do seem to be affected most - kind of ironic, considering that B&N now owns eReader.com. I rooted my Nook partly because of this frustration, but it seems to make no difference. Refresh takes forever, or just doesn't happen at all.
