TOPIC: What are you using to protect your Nook?

What are you using to protect your Nook? 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 1
I just bought my Nook today and was practically giddy with excitement as I pried open the packaging to reveal my brand spanking new device. That's when the panic set in...how will I keep my nook safe in the perilous realm at the bottom of my purse ?? Okay so maybe it wasn't that dramatic but I would like to get a case or sleeve of some sort for my Nook.

I've read that some people prefer to buy the covers that open like a book or flip open from the top because they dislike holding the nook by itself because the hard plastic isn't terribly comfy to hold for hours on end. I've also read that other people don't like those covers because you have to bend the cover back and hold them open as you read and so they go with the sleeve type of case.

Since I just busted my sweet baby out of the box I have no idea which type I'll prefer but before I spend a bunch of money on a cute case (because the gadget accessories are half the fun for me) I'd like to know what you experienced Nook users like to use and why. Case, sleeve, bag, silicone cover, or decal skin? I tend to read for hours at a time and want something that will provide protection but will also be comfortable to use.

Thanks!!
Brooke

Right now, nothing. I just got my nook on Friday. Of course... I ordered my cover Thursday night. I'm getting this one (gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Bleecker-Cover-...98731/?cds2Pid=30261), and it should be here tomorrow. Until then I'm relying on prayers to whatever local deity is in charge of electronic devices. That and being REEEAAAALY careful.

I like the look and feel of the nook as it is. I have screen protectors on both screens and have recently bought a skin because I've noticed some surface scratches. There's a water resistant sleeve I saw on Amazon, I'm probably going to get that before camping season.

I have the B&N Bleeker cover for my nook. The cover itself is thin enough that it adds minimally to the overall thickness of the nook, yet I feel like the nook is well protected in my suitcase or backpack. It opens like a book, and is easily folded back on itself. When it is folded back, it's only a bit larger than the nook itself, and the buttons on both sides are easy to press. The elastic strip holds the cover closed well and also holds the folded back cover open.

It is pretty quick and easy to take the nook in and out, to maintain the experience of holding just the nook, though most of the time I'm reading it is just easier for me to keep it in the cover. The cover design is far from flashy, but for me it is more about the functionality. Overall, I am pretty happy with this cover.

I got the Sinclair cover in "earth" when I got my nook. But I found myself taking it out of the cover all the time to read. So I ordered a Decal Girl skin ("Stand Alone") to protect it from little scratches, and got the neoprene sleeve (that came with a free reading light!) from Amazon. My nook will still fit in the sleeve with the Sinclair cover, even though it's really snug.

I wanted something fairly water resistant for when I vacation. I travel by motorcycle, and well, rain happens! I'll probably have the cover on inside the sleeve for travel, because it will protect my nook more than just the sleeve by itself. But for everyday taking to work and around here, I just use the sleeve.

I guess it all depends on what you are comfortable using.

Oh, almost forgot! Some people that got the silicone sleeve were a bit disappointed to find out that it's sort of a "dust magnet". Seems they like to pick up pet hairs and other stuff. I don't know about that personally, just from what others have said.
