TOPIC: Converting with either Calibre or Sigil

Converting with either Calibre or Sigil 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
I am taking Physics 2 this semester (along with calc 3, statics, materials engineering, and Fortran), and am trying to get the process figured out while I wait for disability services to produce the PDF's for all of my books this semester (shoulder injuries suck).

I have found a free book here (http://www.anselm.edu/internet/physics/c...ics/downloadsII.html) that I have been trying to format with Calibre to actually be viewable. But I have been completely unsuccessful with it.

I'm an Aerospace Engineering major. The fact that the Nook uses metadata instead of reading the pdf is infuriating, but I've already bought it and I otherwise love it. Since my eBooks for school are going to be shipped to me in PDF form, I'm in for a wild ride, I guess you could say... of infuriation.

I need to nip this in the bud pretty quick so I can get it figured out so that I can make it all go when I get them.

Do I need to transfer the document (original) into a PDF or an Epub? I'm not even sure what format the nook prefers!

Thanks for your help in advance!

I'm getting one or the other.
Either the text is formatted correctly and the mathematical functions are all split into different lines and incomprehensible, or the text is formatted incorrectly and that mathematical functions are all split into different lines and are incomprehensible.

I'm running out of hair to pull out.

Download nookStudy and use your laptop. Converting a PDF formatted for print into an ePub formatted for the nook is beyond Rocket Science, it's pretty impossible!

The nook will likely never be an etextbook tool, iPad will win there.

It is do-able. Calibre has a button along the top left that when you select your PDF it will convert it to ePub . I did this with a number of books and articles I downloaded to my Mac. It is very simple and once I sent them to my nook they looked great. I tried putting them on in PDF and they were nearly impossible to read. In ePub they look great. Sorry I can't be more specific at this time- I am on my iTouch and not near my Mac but I wanted to send you a bit of hope and if you need more specifics let me know.

I do need specifics.

I've already figured out how to directly convert from pdf to epub, that wasn't hard. The hard part is getting the line breaks on formulas to not line break. It is driving me insane. I have this device that I paid $200 for that I was otherwise pleased with (much easier to read than normal books for some reason) that I can't actually utilize. GRR!

So instead of Summation of n=1, i = 2x/dt or something to that effect, I get this:

i
E
n=1
2x
dt

I've seen people who say that if you convert the pdf to html, then to epub, it will work. But I cannot get it to do so.

If you can take the link I posted of that pdf and turn it readable, I have to know how you did it. I'm about to have four or five of my textbooks delivered to me in pdf format. Thank you in advance for any help and advice you can offer.

Sorry Halcyon it may not be do-able. Check out the arminstraub.com article Reading mathematical papers on the Nook it may help.

I had already checked them out.
www.arminstraub.com/mathematics/reading-...l-papers-on-the-nook

I'm just not sure where to input that information. From the looks of it, I could theoretically convert all of my pdfs to word documents and then back to pdf with that code put in, but I'm just not following the process. I am not a coder at all. I'm not sure where to even start.

Edit: I finally found the actual download link for LaTex/ProText (I was getting nothing but down servers). I will update once I've had a chance to tinker.
