When you try the web browser on the Nook you will likely be a bit disappointed, even though the touch screen navigation is a cool idea. Trying to look a normal websites on a Nook doesn't make much sense to me. It's not a laptop. I like that it's not. It's a low media, low energy kind of thing. It's not very conducive to advertisements and commercials and so you can read in peace. Thank you, Jesus. I use it for books, magazines and RSS feeds. Checking my e-mails, or getting handy information is a convenience and secondary. I can reply to an e-mail, but it would be short, like call me or meet me at whatever.

I have found that some mobile type websites work pretty well. I set the MSN one, below as my home page. You have to use the full script, or MSN will send you to some ad page trying to sell you mobile something or other. You can enter your zipcode at the top of the page, so all the info will be geared to your local. You can enlarge, zoom in, and the text size will increase, and wrap pretty nicely. The top page has blue text, but when you get to the articles they are in black. Pictures display pretty nicely when increased in size. To back page, toggle on the menu bar by touching the box with the horizontal lines in the upper left.

Google's gmail, I was very pleased with. Navigation was good, scanning my e-mails was good, and text flow on magnification was very good. You can reply, but are limited by the keyboard size, unless you are young and in love, and might be able to do 90 words per minute. You can't download attachments. Really, that would not be reasonable to expect. You can imagine the trouble and whining that would cause.

m.gmail.com

I think the web browser is a vast area. It would be nice if we could share some useful websites. What have you found? Please, let's not get into discussions of all the web browser isn't, or comparisons of what other web browsers do. If you have some tips that help us newbies better use what we have that would be good.

Oh, yeah, I added Gmail, above to the favorites. From the menu bar, you can select the star, scroll through the little thumbnails and then launch Gmail, or whatever favorite you add.

My favorite is Wikipedia:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/
(The URL they shipped with is wrong; change it to this.)

I also sometimes use:
http://m.yahoo.com/
And some of its sub-sites:
http://m.yahoo.com/mail
http://m.yahoo.com/news
http://m.yahoo.com/finance

I was surprised by how readable Yahoo Mail is. Unfortunately, Yahoo Weather doesn't display correctly. But I tried the MSN link Sam posted above, and its weather forecast displays nicely.

I found a few more.

This is the mobile version of Google's RSS Reader and it ties into it, so what ever you put on your full size RSS reader displays on your Nook.
www.google.com/reader/m/view

This is a cool website that has tie-ins to other useful mobile websites, organized by category in a menu list.
cantoni.mobi

What we have listed so far should keep me busy for days.

Any mobile site seems to load just fine.

m.facebook.com
m.twitter.com
idrudgereport.com
m.cnn.com
foxnews.mobi
m.mlb.com/nyy (The world Champion New York Yankees)

I wonder if BN has a mobile site. If not it would be a good marketing move to tie into the nook's browser.
